Chelsea is undoubtedly the most successful London team to have appeared in the English Premier League. Since the 1970s, the Blues has been a team that has allied flair with tactical astuteness and they have won everything there is to in the game, including the Premier League title, Champions League, and FA Cup. Arguably, the younger generation of Blues supporters may well be more familiar with the revolution kickstarted by former owner Roman Abramovich who paved the way for the trophy-laden years.
Chelsea has also had a propensity to fire managers in recent times, but that hasn’t come at the expense of picking up silverware. It’s time to run the rule over Chelsea and tell you what you need to know ahead of the new English Premier League campaign.
Chelsea’s Stadium – An Overview
Stamford Bridge is one of the oldest soccer stadiums in the country as it was officially opened in 1877. Before the Blues were officially formed in 1905, it was used almost exclusively as an athletics venue by the Victorians. By the 1930s, the south side of the stadium was a rather curious structure that was later nicknamed the ‘Shed End’, and the club was saved from bankruptcy by Ken Bates, who bought out the club in the early 1980s.
Chelsea has undergone some redevelopment over the past 30 years, and while capacity wise, the Bridge is smaller compared to other English Premier League venues (42,000 roughly), it remains an intimidating ground for any visiting team.

How did Chelsea fare last season?
Last season was a bit of a turbulent campaign for Chelsea. Although it was marked with silverware in the form of the Club World Cup, their Premier League campaign was affected by off-the-field distractions, namely the Abramovich saga and political tensions in Russia. Abramovich sold the club and the Blues limped home in third which guaranteed Champions League qualification. However, the west London outfit will have been disappointed to have finished a distant 19 points behind the champions Manchester City.
What can we expect this season?
Despite some visible signs of fatigue in recent weeks, Chelsea will be eager to close the gap to Manchester City and Liverpool. Kalidou Koulibaly is a key acquisition as he has that aerial presence to shore up the defense, especially with Thiago Silva in the autumn of his career. They also managed to recruit Raheem Sterling which will give them more pace up front and it has dampened concerns about who they would replace Romelu Lukaku with.
If they can fly out of the blocks, Chelsea could make a concerted challenge, and a top-two finish is certainly feasible.
