With the teaser bet, you can also get extra points on the side of your wager, so if you fancy Green Bay Packers to cover the official -9.5 point spread, you can also add Green Bay Packers -3.5 to bolster your chances of returning a successful betting slip.

However, bear in mind, that the potential profits for teasers are smaller than parlays, however, you can still get a decent sized payout if you place a small stake.

How does a Teaser Bet work?

So, how does a teaser bet work and how do you place a teaser bet? If you are using one of our recommended sportsbooks, you will need to establish how many selections you want to add to your teaser bet.

On the online betting slip, you will be able to add multiple selections to your slip and on there, you should find a function entitled ‘Teasers’, so make sure you tick the box to complete this step.

For NFL, you will typically be able to move the spread by up to 7 points, but the further you move the point lines in your favour, the smaller your potential returns will be.

The betting slip will show your preferred combinations – usually American odds – and the slip will calculate what you could stand to win. Remember that some sportsbooks will impose a maximum limit for teaser bets, so make sure you read the terms and conditions.

Common Teaser Bets

While NFL teasers are usually available at 6, 6.5, or 7 points, it works slightly different for the NBA. Here, the lines can be moved by 4, 4.5, or 5 points.

Let’s use an example to illustrate this. If the Chicago Bulls were facing the Brooklyn Nets in a regular season game, and you fancy the Bulls to come out on top, you can do the following:

• 4-point teaser – You could bet on the Chicago Bulls +5.5 on a point spread, you can get +9.5 on your teaser.

Knowing when to move the line on a point spread requires applying a basic betting strategy, and in many ways, teaser bets are probably better suited for those who are more experienced in wagering on sports.

Other Types of Teaser Bets

Although these are generally much rarer, there are two types of teasers which can be used for NFL and NBA matches:

• Super Teaser – Here, the bet will see 10 points added to the spread and you need to have three picks on your slip.
• Monster Teaser – You can add a whopping 13 points to the spread and your slip must contain four picks.
