The Masters is one of the most eagerly anticipated Majors of the season and with an idyllic Augusta setting, hope springs eternal for the 91-strong field. 12 months ago, Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama became the first Asian golfer to collect the coveted Green Jacket, and he will certainly attract plenty of attention as he seeks to defend his title.

Plenty of potential outcomes

Usually, there are so many fascinating plots and sub-plots at The Masters, and Augusta is laden with danger – you only have to ask the players what they think about Amen Corner and the challenges faced on holes 11 through to 13!

Anyway, there are a few potential storylines that could emerge over the week. We have rummaged through the markets for this illustrious event, and we have given you a few tips for you to tuck into.

Tiger Woods return

Named in the field, and set to play, Tiger Woods has been put through his paces at the practice driving range. The 15-time Major champion – who has five Green Jackets to his name – is hoping to make his first appearance on the PGA Tour since November 2020 when he played at Augusta.

The past 12 months have been a rather testing time as Woods has been trying to recover from a car crash he was involved in. There will be plenty of fans hoping to see Woods in his traditional Sunday red, and if he is, then he will be on the prowl (excuse the pun!) as he seeks to cut the field to pieces.

However, Sugarhouse is offering a price of +100 for Woods to make the cut and be at Augusta come the weekend.

Rory McIlroy eyeing Career Slam

For years now, the media have been guilty of overhyping McIlroy, and more often than not, he has fallen flat in Augusta. Who could forget his meltdown in 2011? The Ulsterman he had a four-shot lead going into the final round, but he capitulated on the back nine.

If he can string together four impeccable rounds of golf, McIlroy could find himself in contention, and he will be desperate to complete the Career Slam, having won the other three Majors.

Currently, McIlroy is trading at +1600 to win The Masters with Sugarhouse, and if he were to triumph, he would be a popular champion for the Augusta patrons.

Jon Rahm to get off to a strong start

We’ve been wondering when the real Jon Rahm will show up. Although he finished runner-up at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and T3 at the Farmers Insurance, the reigning US Open champion is yet to step into the winner’s circle in 2022.

Nevertheless, the mercurial Spaniard, providing he can keep his emotions in check, will be a threat this week. Last year, Rahm finished T5 at Augusta with a final score of -6, and if he is quick coming out of the gate, he will be a serious contender.

Sugarhouse has priced Rahm as the favorite at +2000 to be the leader after the first round.

Collin Morikawa hungry for more

Collin Morikawa has been tipped as the player most likely to emulate Woods, and he is a special talent. He is one of the fearless new breed of golfers on the PGA Tour, and he’s happy to attack the pin when others would be more comfortable settling up.

The American already has two Major titles under his belt, and his iron play is superb. While he has been rather quiet so far this year, the 25-year-old has bags of talent, and he comes alive in the Majors.

Last year, Morikawa was a bit off the pace at Augusta as he finished T18, however, that shouldn’t be scoffed at. It is remarkable to think that his first two Majors were won while making his debut at the PGA Championship and the Open, and there’s plenty more to come.

Currently, Morikawa can be backed at odds of +2000 with Sugarhouse, which at first glance, may seem rather harsh judging by his record in the Majors.
